Why should you clean your roof

Your roof is so important to protect you and your family from the rain, winds and storms found in the UK from time to time.
However over the years it suffers from all sorts of damage, this may not be visible at first.
Don’t think because you can’t see it that the problems haven’t started, from the tiniest fractures to cracking of tiles to under a covering of moss.
So by Jet This Way cleaning your roof we can spot these problems in advance.

Benefits of having a roof clean

Over a period of time you may start to see a build up of algae and or moss.
Our weather in the UK is unpredictable and ever changing, meaning through dry spells we can still see algae grow.  The wet weather that we have in the UK causes a influcks of moss growing.
Over a period of time moss can carry on growing causing extensive damage to your roof, chipped tiles, fractures and large cracks.
There are various ways we can clean and treat your roof, helping to preserve the life of it.
This also has to be done in a safe manner, by using ladders, Scaffold or large boom cherry pickers.
The use of equipment also depends greatly on how your house is situated, so a large boom lift is very useful if we have good access.
However if access is tight then ladders and scaffolds will be needed.

Results you would expect to see will also vary

If your roof is plagued with algae but no moss, then a treatment of a good quality biocide is enough to deal with the problem.
After the treatment with a biocide the product will start doing its job, as the weeks pass by you will see the algae changing colour, it’s starting to die off.
As the months go on the algae will let go of the roof while the biocide carries on killing spores and protect your roof.
If you would like to see an immediate difference to the roof then you will need a full washdown.
This is done by a commercial jetting system, a crew member will either be in a cherry picker or on a scaffold with telescopic lances connected to a flat surface cleaner.
This is very labour intensive however the results are instant, once this clean as been completed the roof will then be treated with a biocide.
The biocide is the protection for the roof, and could keep algae and moss at bay for anything up to 5 years, if not longer in many cases.

So now let’s deal with moss

The best way to deal with the moss is to perform a roof scraping, the weight of moss is extremely under estimated.
This weight can triple in the winter as moss is like a sponge hanging on to water, once the moss gets too heavy it can let go and rolls into the gutters, blocking not only the gutter but the downpipes as well.
Once we have removed all the moss and bagged it up the next treatment will of course be the biocide again.
Even though you won’t be able to see any moss, there will be spores not visible to you, and the biocide will help to kill those spores.
The biocide will deal with these issues, keeping the roof moss free for many years to come.
